Corruption is one of the most rampant issues in our country. Here in the Philippines, it is not new to us that the officials we elect tend to be corrupt. I’m sick of hearing news about people, especially officials with high public positions in the government, using the money of the people for their own interests. Filipinos are tired of hearing issues like ZTE scandal, Hello Garci scandal and not having enough funds because certain officials have used the people’s money for their own benefit. I am not a Pro Noynoy Aquino but I for one believe that he is not and will never be a corrupt President of the Philippines. I believe that his intentions for our country and its development are clear and clean. It’s still too early to make good judgments about our new President but if I compare him to the past presidents of our country, most especially to Former President Gloria Arroyo, I can definitely say that he’s far better that her. He makes it a point that the rules are implemented and that everyone, including himself, follows our laws. He is a leader that leads by example. Going back to corruption, public officials tend to use their power and position to get things they want for their own interests. Even some private people that are influential because of their wealth or position tend to be greedy and get things that are not really meant for them.
The citizens of this country are the ones who suffer the most and corrupt officials benefit from what they get. The most common problems the Philippines face due to excessive corruption is lack of money or funds. The ongoing budget deficit the Philippine government is experiencing results to a decrease in the expenditure needed for the countries development. Education in the Philippines is also greatly affected. The quality of education in our country is going down due to lack of classrooms and teachers for the children. The government lacks funds for the construction of new schools, classrooms, books and for the wages of the teachers. In addition, with the recent typhoon Basyang, rehabilitation of areas affected by the typhoon lacked calamity funds due to corruption. The money that should have been for the citizen’s use in times of calamities was also affected because our government officials already used our funds to things we aren’t aware of.
We often hear about people complaining about the high prices in the market and that they are not able to buy the things they need because of lack of money. It is really unfair for those people who work so hard for their families and receive a certain amount of wage only and still pays a huge amount of money for taxes and yet if we look at the development of our country at the end of each year, we still don’t see any improvement. We often hear about the increasing dept of our country which is quite dismay for the common people who wants their lives to improve. There’s this quite popular line, “the rich becomes richer and the poor becomes poorer” is something that I can relate to the effects of corruption. Because of corruption, certain priorities are being neglected and no improvements are happening to our country and its people.

Some good points I liked about your blog are the different examples you've given that depict corruption in the Philippines. Also, it was good that you cited the different effects of corruption in our education, wages, and rehabilitation centers. However, maybe you can cite some actions our government is currently doing in order to prevent corruption if there's any. Furthermore, it would be good if you can make some judgements regarding their plans of action.
ReplyDeleteIt is good that you have cited examples that are still fresh in the memories of our readers like the scandals of corruption from the previous administrations. I suggest that you not only focus on the effects of corruption, but also focus on the causes on why people tend to be corrupt. And I agree on what Mr. Barretto suggested, to have a plan of action.
